Managing the touch panel controllers in Velzy Commons

Summary

Instructions for managing the touch panel controllers in Velzy Commons.

Body

Waking the touch panel controller:

The touch panel controller will dim after a short period of inactivity. After additional time with no activity, the touch panel display will go completely dark to save energy. Touching the front panel surface will wake the touch panel. If the touch panel does not wake when touched, it may be powered off or disconnected. See the next section for related information.

Powering up or down the touch panel controller:

  1. At the SEM desk.
    1. The touch panel gets its power from the building network switch. Ensure that both network cables--one for the computer and one for the touch panel controller--are connected to network jacks on the wall.
    2. Power on: If the cables were connected, and the touch panel does not wake when touched, it is turned off. To turn it on, use a ball-point pen to briefly push and release the panel's power button. The power button is located on the top of the bezel in the upper, left corner. After pushing and releasing the button, you should see the splash screen appear as the panel boots up. If you don't have a ball-point pen handy, disconnect and reconnect the network cable at the network jack on the wall.
    3. Power off: Prior to disconnecting the touch panel controller, it is important to turn it off. If the locked screen is not visible, push the "Lock This Panel" button. Push the "Turn off touch panel" button, which is located in the lower, left corner of the touch panel's locked screen. You will be prompted to enter the pin number. After successfully entering the pin and pushing the "OK" button, there will be a short delay, then the panel will power off. You can disconnect the network cable at this time. If the panel does not power off, you likely entered an incorrect pin number.
  2. At the North or South Lectern.
    1. The touch panel gets its power from a POE injector inside the lectern. It does not get power from the building network switch. Ensure the lectern's power cable is plugged into a 125VAC receptacle.
    2. Power on: If the lectern's power cable is connected, and the touch panel does not wake when touched, it is turned off. To turn it on, use a ball-point pen to briefly push and release the panel's power button. The power button is located on the top of the bezel in the upper, left corner. After pushing and releasing the button, you should see the splash screen appear as the panel boots up.
