THIS PROCESS IS FOR CITY OF PLATTEVILLE EMPLOYEES ONLY. All UW-Platteville account holders should follow instructions for Enrolling in Duo Self Service - Universal Prompt.
City of Platteville employees should follow these steps to enroll in multi-factor (MFA) authentication for Microsoft Office 365.
Getting started
- Go to https://aka.ms/MFASetup
- Sign into your Office 365 account. Enter your email address. Click Next.
- Enter your O365 password. Click Sign in.
- Click Next to enter additional information to set up MFA.
- The following screen will appear.
- If you want to set up the Mobile App on your phone (recommended), continue with Mobile App set-up below.
- If you prefer to set up a phone call or text as your method, click "I want to set up a different method" in the lower left corner and follow the online instructions. NOTE: Using your office phone is not recommended. If you're out of the office and need to check your email, you will not be able to verify the login attempt.
Mobile App setup
- Download the Microsoft Authenticator app to your phone, then click Next.
- Add your account into the app and select "Work or School". If prompted, allow notifications. Click Next.
- Use the Microsoft Authenticator app to scan the QR code, then click Next.
- Microsoft will send your phone a temporary authorization to verify the app is properly configured. Click on Approve when the notification is received on your phone.
- Click Next on this screen.
- Click Done on the next screen. Your MFA setup is complete.
Using the mobile app
At the next login attempt you will need to verify the sign-in through the Authentication app.
Once you have authenticated your login, you can select “Yes” to stay signed in and reduce how often you will need to authenticate.
