Canvas - Inviting users to continuing education courses

Due to the changes in how Canvas handles the creation of free accounts, we can no longer use "Open enrollment" links to have outside guests join a Canvas course in the Continuing Education instance. Users that do not have a UW-Platteville account will be required to be first invited to the course prior to being able to create an account. Below are the steps required to invite someone to your Continuing Education course.

1. Click on the "People" tab on the course navigation menu.

 People tab menu

2.  Click on the "+People" button to add someone to the course.

3. You will need to enter the email address into the field.  You can enter multiple emails on separate lines. Below the box, please  select the correct role that you want these people to have in your course (Student, Teacher, etc.).

Enter Email Address Field

4. Click on the "Next" button. If they do not already have a Canvas account, you will be asked to enter information for them.  Please add their first and last name and then click on "Next".

Add Name Field

5. If they already had an account, or after you have entered the name for the new account, you should see the message that "The following users are ready to be added to the course".  Once you click on "Add Users", it will send out an email invite to the users.
