Teams Phone General FAQ

Microsoft Teams Phone refers to the capability to make and receive calls in Microsoft Teams. As you know, Teams users can call other Teams users.

With Teams Phone, you can do this the same way you do now, but you can also make and receive calls to and from landlines and mobile phones too.

No, existing phone numbers will be migrated. Your phone number will not change. 

Note: 4-digit dialing will no longer be supported. You will have to use the full 10-digit number when making a call in Teams Phone

Adding Teams Phone does not change how Teams works. It just adds capabilities. The main thing you’ll see is a more intuitive interface with all your contacts more easily accessible, and the ability to use a dial pad to call an external phone number.

Migrations will be completed by department. Users will receive email communications prior to your department’s migration.

The impact should be minimal. Teams phone has a few different features. You will be provided with training resources to ensure you are prepared.

No, we are not migrating any currently saved voicemails over to Teams Phone. You may save your current voicemails in your files as .mp4 files if you need to maintain them.

Please check all voicemails before your migration date.

No, please record a new voicemail greeting after migration. We will also remind you in the communications.

Yes. Physical phones (Yealink) will be available. Otherwise, you can use a headset. Your supervisor or Dept. Head should have requested your preference. The headset provides the most features, namely: Multitasking while talking, better audio quality, mobility, and noise-reducing microphones to limit background distractions
