If you receive a suspicious email in your UW-Platteville email account
First FORWARD that message to the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@uwplatt.edu.
-
Click FORWARD on the actual message, do not send screen shots of the message.
-
BEFORE sending, ADD “Phish” or “Phishing” in front of the subject and LEAVE the rest of the subject as is, ex: Phish Fw: GET RICH!
-
Send to helpdesk@uwplatt.edu. Do not delete yet! Continue to Change #2.
Next, REPORT AS PHISHING in Microsoft 365. This will move the message from your Inbox to the Deleted Items folder and send a message to Microsoft for analysis.
To report in Outlook Web App (Email on the Pioneer Portal) or new Desktop Client
NOTE: It is not possible to report a message as phishing through classic (current) Outlook. You can only report as junk, which will not have the same effect.
Choose one:
Right-click on the message and select Report Phishing.

OR select the message from the list and click Report > Report Phishing from the Home ribbon.

To get Outlook desktop client (new version)
NOTE: There are differences between the new client and the classic (current) client, particularly where shared mailboxes are concerned. You can run both clients simultaneously if you wish. Find out more in this feature comparison between new Outlook and classic Outlook (Microsoft).
- Open classic Outlook desktop client.
- In the upper right, turn "Try the new Outlook" to On. You can toggle back to the classic version, if you'd like.

To report from the Outlook mobile app
- Open the message.
- Click the three dots in the upper right.
- Select Report Phishing from the menu.
