PASS - Navigation and Help (Staff)

Navigation

Hyperlinks are used to navigate through the Student Administration database. A hyperlink is text or a graphic that, when clicked, takes you to another page.
You can recognize hyperlinks by

  • their color (blue)
  • the hand icon that appears when you move your mouse over the hyperlink
     

Navigational Headers (Computers and Other Large Devices)

The blue header across the top of the page contains many buttons to assist in navigating within PASS.

It's been broken into 3 sections to for explanation purposes:

- On the right side: [1]

a. Home icon - This button returns to the default homepage.
b. 3 Dot Action icon - This button expands menu to allow for additional actions, such as New Window, My Preferences, Help, and Sign Out.
c. NavBar icon - This button expands the navigational menu

- In the middle [2]

a. Magnifying Glass icon and Search field - This button is used to search for pages and provide navigations. The search defaults to looking in "Menu"s, but also includes the ability to search "All content" if selected from the drop-down menu.

- On the left side [3]

a.  Recently Visited - listing of all recently visited pages.
b.  Favorites listing of all recently visited pages.

The 2nd toolbar just under the blue toolbar at the top of the page pertains to the main page shown.

  1. Homepage Name - displays the name of the current displayed homepage. The drop-down arrow next to the name opens a drop-down listing of all available homepages.
  2. Homepage Count selector - 1 of however many homepages are available to switch to. The left and right arrows allow user to scroll through the homepages.
  3. 3 Dot "Homepage Actions" icon - This button expands menu to allow for additional actions, such as Personalize Homepage and Refresh.

The blue header across the top of the page contains less buttons than what a computer screen will show, but the same functionality is available.

a. Magnifying Glass icon - This button opens a separate window that is used to search for pages and provide navigations. The search defaults to looking in "Menu"s, but also includes the ability to search "All content" if selected from the drop-down menu.
b. 3 Dot Action icon - This button expands menu to allow for additional actions, such as Personlize Homepage, Refresh, New Window, Home, NavBar, My Preferences, Help, and Sign Out.

Navigational Menu Structure

The Student Administration system consists of a series of menus. You may display the menus, folders, and links using the menu structure or graphical structure provided.       

Menu Structure
Menu Structure provides a navigational hierarchy. When you click the Expand arrow (right facing arrow) located on the right of a menu, the associated folders and possible links are displayed. You can continue to click the Expand arrow until all the folders have been expanded. The main menu navigation process flow is on the right side of the page and is shown here:

Global Search

The Magnifying Glass icon and Search field located in middle of the blue header is used to search for pages and provide navigations. The search process defaults to looking for the value entered via PASS's menu structure, but using the drop-down arrow next to the word "Menu", a user can switch the process to search using "All Content". For instance, searching the word "Schedule" using the Menu criteria, returns the following values:

Searching the word "Schedule" using All Content criteria opens a global search page since it searches ALL content:

Scroll Bar

Depending on the size of the page displayed and the number of items on the page, a scroll bar may appear. Use the scroll bar to quickly view the top and bottom of the menus or the graphical images.
 

Components and Pages


The hyperlinks that you follow will lead you to a specific component. A component consists of one or more pages related to a well-defined task. Pages within a component are organized with “folder tabs”. To access a page, click on its folder tab.
The following example shows a two-page component and the “folder tabs”.

3-Dot Actions Menu - [from within a page or process]

  1. Add to Homepage - selecting this option opens up the Add to Homepage pop-up window, which allows the user to select a homepage or create a new homepage to add a "shortcut" tile to.
  2. Add to NavBar - selecting this option opens up an Add to NavBar pop-up window that allows the user to either use the existing name or add a new label for the tile that will display in the NavBar when added.
  3. Add to Favorites - selecting this option opens up an Add to Favorites pop-up window that allows the user to either use the existing name or add a new label for the link/tile that will display in the Favorites area when added.
  4. My Preferences - selecting this option opens up the My Preferences page, which allows the user to enable/disable personalized options, such as enhanced cursor and auto-complete.
  5. Sign Out - selecting this option will sign the user out of the system.

Adding a tile directly to the NavBar allows you to click and go directly to the page without needing to navigate through the menus.
