Here at UW-Platteville, we have 4 separate support levels. There is level 1 - best effort, 2 - limited support, 3 - unsupported, and 4 - not allowed.
Level 1 - (Best Effort) Software in this category will get the best support we can provide, as it is recent and our staff is trained in its use, this includes:
- Windows 10/11
- Windows 8.1 (Student Computers Only)
- MacOS 12/13/14
Level 2 - (Limited Support) Software in this category will get our best effort, however, staff may be unfamiliar with the ins and outs of the program.
Level 3 - (Unsupported) These programs are allowed on campus, however, ITS likely will not work with the issue, and can not promise that the issue will be fixed.
- Linux
- All programs not in Level 1, Level 2, or prohibited by Level 4.
Level 4 - (Not Allowed). This software is not allowed on the network at all, for security and connectivity reasons.
- DOS
- Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 and older
- Mac OSX 10.15 or older
- MacOS 11
- Any homegrown, beta, or pre-release OS
- Any OS designed to primarily to provide server services (ex. Windows 2008 Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server)
All computers connected to the network must have some basic software and settings, such as:
- Up-to-date anti-virus software and virus definitions must be installed if available.
- TCP/IP configuration must be retrieved using DHCP automatically.
- All vendor-supplied operating system and security patches must be applied. For example, use Microsoft Update for Windows or Software Update for Mac OS to install updates.
Note: All users connecting and using any systems on the UW-Platteville campus network agree to Policy - Acceptable Use of Information Technology Resources
