Backing up and Restoring Bookmarks - Mozilla Firefox

Getting a new computer? Need to back up your bookmarks to restore on another computer? Follow these instructions to back up your Firefox bookmarks manually. To set up an automatic back up of your bookmarks to the cloud, use the browser sync functionality instead.

Backing up bookmarks

1. Click on the Settings menu (three horizontal lines) in the upper right corner of Firefox. Click on Bookmarks, then select Manage Bookmarks or use shortcut keys by simultaneously pressing Ctrl+Shift+O.
   
   
    
2. Click on Import and Backup, then Backup.
   
   
    
3. Select a location to save the backup file. Recommended location is your J drive. The file name will default to "bookmarks" followed by today's date. If you are backing up bookmarks from multiple browsers, add "firefox-" to the beginning of the file name and click Save.
   
   
    

Restoring bookmarks

1. Click on the Settings menu (three horizontal lines) in the upper right corner of Firefox. Click on Bookmarks, then select Manage Bookmarks or use shortcut keys by simultaneously pressing Ctrl+Shift+O.
   
   
    
2. Click on Import and Backup. Select Restore then Choose File...
   
   
    
3. Navigate to the file you saved during the backup process and click Open.
   
   
    
4. You will be prompted with a confirmation to replace all your current bookmarks. Click OK.
