UW-Platteville is transitioning its campus phone system to Microsoft Teams Phone, replacing aging, on-premises telephone infrastructure with a modern, cloud-based solution. This change integrates voice calling directly into the Microsoft Teams client. The first campus departments have completed the transition, and ITS is moving forward with a focused deployment schedule, with additional departments being scheduled and migrated in the coming weeks.
What's Changing
- Your existing Cisco phone will be replaced with the equipment you select.
- Voice calls will be made and received through Microsoft Teams on your campus computer, mobile device, or Teams desk phone.
- The way you dial some phone numbers will change. See Dialing a Campus Phone for more information.
What's Not Changing
- Your phone number will remain the same unless it is an extension beginning with 5 or is a department main line.
What You Can Expect Next
- When your department is scheduled for migration, you will receive an email with details about the transition and a link to select the equipment you would like to use with Microsoft Teams Phone. The link will take you to the ITS Tech Support Portal, where you will need to log in using your university credentials before selecting one equipment option (see image below). Please disregard the checkmarks shown next to the options.
- On your department's migration day, ITS staff will visit your department to remove your old equipment and help set up your new equipment.
- On the day of migration, you may experience up to one hour of phone service disruption while your number is moved to Teams Phone. ITS will make every effort to minimize the disruption.
