UW-System has provided access to a few tools within Canvas to help make your courses more accessible. The two programs are UDOIT Advantage and TidyUp. These tools are linked inside of the Canvas navigation menu of your course and are ready to use today.
TidyUp
TidyUp is a program that will scan your course and index all of the files, pages, quizzes, and content in your course. It will show you where it is used, if at all, in your course so that you can manage your files and delete content that isn’t being used. Here are some tips on using TidyUp effectively.
- Run TidyUp on your sandbox or template course, not your live course, to make sure that you get rid of files going forward.
- Run TidyUp first to remove unused and duplicate files prior to running Udoit
- Before deleting unused files, it is a good idea to download them locally in case you need them in the future.
- Run TidyUp at the end of your course to see if there are files that you added but didn’t use.

UDOIT Advantage
UDOIT is a course accessibility checker that scans your course and provides a report on what things need to be remediated in order to make the course more accessible. It will scan Canvas pages, discussions, assignments, quiz instructions, and anywhere else there is HTML. It will also scan the files that are uploaded to your course. To get you started, UDOIT sorts items by the easiest to fix, content type, issue type, to name a few. The links they provide will take you to the spot in your course where the issue can be found, and you can fix it right in their window. It will then save the changes that you make right inside of your course. If you are getting errors and suggestions that you know have already been resolved or aren't issues, you can manually tell UDOIT that they have been addressed.
Note: If you have errors with your PDF documents, please visit the Article - Fixing PDF Title and Taggin... for how to fix them.
