Canvas Discussions Redesign Deployment

Canvas grade pass-back

When you create a grading scheme in Canvas, it is possible to sync your final course grades from the Canvas Gradebook to PASS at the end of the term. In PASS, you can review the grades before submitting them to the Registrar. Grades do not officially get submitted until you log into PASS and approve them.

Canvas manual enrollment requests

A course instructor can request that student employees be added to their course. Only the director, department chair, or program coordinator who oversees a course can request that additional staff or faculty members be enrolled in a course. When additional staff or faculty are requested, the requestor will be asked to identify why the enrollment is needed, and how it aligns with the academic interests of the students who are enrolled in the course.

Canvas Quizzes: How to create and import a QTI file using text

This article demonstrates the format for creating a text file that can then be converted to a QTI file. This file can then be imported into Canvas as a New or Classic Quiz.

Complying with FERPA when cross-listing Canvas courses

Unless students meet at the same time in the same physical classroom, courses should generally not be cross-listed. In other words, cross-listing for instructor convenience is not recommended.  To comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), students should not have access to student information in other sections unless all participants sign a FERPA Consent to Release Information form.  This document highlights the actions that must be taken when cross-listing courses.

Support for Digital Learning Materials

Some instructors choose to utilize digital learning materials in their courses.  Canvas administrators can verify materials are integrated properly in Canvas, but they do not have administrative access to the integrated resources. Therefore, the support that ITS can provide is minimal. For the most part, instructors will need to work with the digital resource vendor or publisher for technical support.
