Purchasing information for software and hardware for students and their parents.

Software 

UW-Platteville students are eligible for free Office applications through their Office 365 account. Students may download to up to five personal devices. Software downloaded through Office 365 is yours to use as long as you are enrolled at UW-Platteville.

ITS strongly recommends installing and/or updating anti-virus software on your devices. In fact, it is required if you plan to connect to the campus network. 

Hardware

ITS does not provide a computer buying or leasing program at this time. All computers are to be purchased through a computer vendor.
 
Choosing a computer involves many factors such as personal preference, budget, and needs. ITS cannot recommend one particular product over another. We do, however, provide useful links to help you in your decision-making for computers and other hardware.

Many manufacturers offer discounts to students.  You are free to choose any brand you wish.  ITS Help Desk will support any and all models that meet the minimum configurations for a computer system at UW-Platteville.
If you have questions while you are purchasing a computer, please contact the ITS Help Desk; we will be happy to help you through your computer purchase.

Support

The ITS Help Desk serves students living in the residence halls through ResNet.  ResNet supports basic connectivity in the halls and provides limited fee-based assistance with software and hardware on student-owned computers.

As part of Office 365,every student and current employee at UW-Platteville has access to five copies of Microsoft Office to install on personally-owned devices. At this time, the free licenses are not available for guest/retiree accounts.
