Backing up and Restoring Bookmarks - Microsoft Edge

Getting a new computer? Need to back up your bookmarks to restore on another computer? Follow these instructions to back up your Edge bookmarks manually. To set up an automatic back up of your bookmarks to the cloud, use the browser sync functionality instead.

Backing up bookmarks

1. Click on the Favorites menu (star with three horizontal lines) in the upper right corner of Edge or use shortcut keys by simultaneously pressing Ctrl+Shift+O then click on the ellipsis (three horizontal dots). Select Export favorites.
   
   


2. Select a location to save the backup file. Recommended location is your J drive. The file name will default to "favorites" followed by today's date. If you are backing up bookmarks from multiple browsers, add "edge-" to the beginning of the file name and click Save.
   
   
    

Restoring bookmarks

1. Click on the Favorites menu (star with three horizontal lines) in the upper right corner of Edge or use shortcut keys by simultaneously pressing Ctrl+Shift+O then click on the ellipsis (three horizontal dots). Select Import favorites.
   
   
    
2. Within Settings, click on Choose what to import.
   
   
    
3. In the "Import browser data" dialog box, click on the drop-down menu and select Favorites or bookmarks HTML file.
   
   
    
4. Click on Choose file.
   
   
    
5. Navigate to the file you saved during the backup process and click Open.
   
   
    
6. Click Done.
